In this article, we will try to explain the difference between different receipt printers available for Square Register.

There are 3 most common models of Star Micronics Receipt Printers that are compatible with Square Register:

• Option 1: USB Receipt Printer by Star
• Option 2: LAN/ETHERNET Receipt Printer by Star
• Option 3: Bluetooth Receipt Printer by Star

Now let's talk about the differences between these printers.

Option 1 (USB Receipt Printer) is the most economical option.  You would need to use it in conjunction with the Square Stand.  USB Receipt Printer connects to Square Stand and Cash Drawer Connects to USB Printer.

Option 2 (LAN/ETHERNET Receipt Printer) has a slightly higher price.  The advantage of LAN Receipt Printer is that it connects to your modem.  If your modem is close by to your POS Register, then it will be easy to run a wire to the printer.  What that means is you can use any iPad Stand with this setup.  You are not limited to using only Square Stand.

Option 3 (BLUETOOTH Receipt Printer) is for customers who would like to use non-USB Receipt Printer, but ETHERNET receipt printer is not an option for them because it is difficult to run the wire from modem to receipt printer.  Bluetooth Receipt Printer does not require any wires (except for power) to connect to your iPad.  This is the most convenient setup but comes at a little higher price tag.
